interested to see what happens with this. currently got the e-hybrid on order with a view to getting a charger installed on the drive as i replace a fairly thirsty diesel. The e-mode with larger capacity battery is a big driver why i took the plunge as would save me circa £200 a month on fuel if i can get the cheaper charge rates running solely on electric for large parts of the motoring.

Currently looking at the hypervolt home 3 pro charger but may hang fire a little longer to see if this is something that VW release an update for soon.

Hi everyone, I got recently the 2024 PHEV Tiguan 1.5 eHybrid, currently running infotainment software 2460, and wanted to ask if anyone else has encountered the following 2 issues relating to battery charging:
1) with charging limit set to 80% (both in the car and on the iphone app), the car keeps charging to more e.g. 86%
2) the battery menu only has "Battery" and "Settings" submenus, but on the digital manual for the specific S/N at they mention a "Charging loc" menu which is missing in my case

Snags with my GTE 8.5. Sorry, I know this is for Tiguans, but the baseline is the same.

I have an ohme charger and Octopus Go tariff (not intelligent tariff). It's possible to schedule a charge via the app with price cap (commence at 0030), but as Chris has mentioned, the 12v battery pretty much discharges while waiting for the start time (charging LED goes to Red on the car when plugged in, indicating a fault. As stated earlier, the car wants to charge immediately, and the Ohme desired schedule clearly contradicts this).

So, 2 weeks in and 2 instances of a flat 12v battery during/post charge. It seems the 'red'period is when the 12v discharges).

Great to have my car alarm wake the street at 0300 as the battery hit low voltage (it was 2v when AA rocked up at 0900 ish). My car is currently in a dealership as i wasnt prepared to accept a jump from AA and be told to crack on.

The self help workaround is to plug up as late as possible, but I'm normally in bed by 2100 so not achievable. Suppose I could use a 3 pin socket and suck up some peak and off peak charging, but why should I have to resort to that.

Will let you know what Breeze come back with.

Wow me too with the Tiguan. 2 weeks ago RAC replaced the battery with a new more powerful one but on Sunday flat again in the morning. So dropped to the main dealers on Monday.

A complete botch by VW.

I always go to bed after midnight so just before I go up timber hill, across carpet common and down sheety lane I go to the garage, unlock the car, plug in the car, lock the car and turn the switch on the 13amp socket. The white light comes on but the green charging light doesn’t usually appear for ten minutes or so. If I was to go to bed much earlier I would consider getting a suitable good quality timer from someone like Tough Leads. This doesn’t help those that don’t use granny chargers.

I'm clutching at straws here, but when i get my car back, I'll look to mirror your connection sequence (with my Ohme charger) to see if it negates the car's desire to charge immediately, and literally suck the life out of my 12v battery again until it reaches 00:30:

-Set an off peak charging schedule in the Ohme app
-check that this schedule is mirrored on the charger
-Turn ohme charger off at the fuse box
-unlock the car
-connect ohme charging cable
-lock the car
-turn ohme charger back on at the fuse box
-hold my breath

Hopeful outcome: Charging LED turns green, or remains off, or maybe turns yellow to really spice things up.

Likely outcome: Charging LED turns solid Red, I swear profusley and subsequently drown my sorrows down the pub.

Have you breathed out yet 🙄?

So, I tried the above, but the LED went straight to RED upon turning the fuse box back on - i chose to crack a coke zero rather than a Stella.

Anyway, looks like I've found a fix.

My baseline is:

-Octopus Go Tariff (not intelligent)
-Ohme Pro charger
-Golf GTE MK8.5

Ohme app settings:
-Dynamic charging 'OFF'
-Price cap enabled (I don't think it matters whether it's on or off)
-No API connectivity setup with Volkswagen connect i.e I didn't Pair my Ohme app with my car, rather, I simply chose my particular car from the manufacturers drop down list.
-no schedules set.
-I chose to 'add 5% charge'
-To be 'ready by 01:15'

19:00- unlocked my car, plugged in the charger then set a 'max charge' from within the Ohme app (this is an immediate charge) - car starts to charge as expected (flashing Green LED).

After 30 seconds, I then pressed 'smart charge' from within the Ohme app.

This is where I held my breath - the LED flashed white (perfect), then turned off after roughly 2 minutes (even better).

Back to the ohme app: Off peak schedule was populated automatically by Ohme.

00:20 - I woke up to witness the shenanigans at 00:30 (start of my off peak rate)

00:31 - LED started flashing green to indicate charging

01:00 - Charging stops. LED turns off.

08:00 - unlocked my car - LED turned solid green for a few seconds, then turned off. Unplugged my car. Checked it had charged then locked her back up with a smile on my face.

I will shortly be moving house. The garage is about 15 metres away from the house where the smart meter is positioned. If I wish to have an ’intelligent’ contract the charger has to be connected to the smart meter. This is not practical. Therefore I will have to either continue using a 13amp socket, like I have successfully done for over 4 years but for convenience get a timer OR get a charger and utilise the timer built into it.

Still pi*sed off that VW have removed the built in timer.

For when you want an early night but want to charge off peak.

I think running a cable across stone clippings would be frowned upon by an installer. Not going to dig a trench or run a cable on poles either. That is the timer I was thinking of getting. Manufactured locally to me.

I think we should be chatting on the GTE Forum (I have same username) since Tiguan owners might regard us as interlopers.
