Coming across an issue with my Tiguan 2017 2.0, 7 speed dsg auto - 45300miles on the clock.

After 35mins of driving roughly the emergency gearbox mode (you can drive on) comes up and goes into limp mode. I then switch of the engine and it goes back to normal for 20 mins then message comes back.

If I leave the car overnight, it drives fine Asif nothing is wrong until it's all warmed up roughly 30mins of driving then back into emergency mode only gears 2 4 and 6.

My friend plugged it into his basic code reader and fault P0805 clutch positioning sensor circuit came up.

Any ideas what this could be or anyone came across similar issues?

I've read about mechtronic box failure but surely not being 2017 and only 45300 on the clock, and of course out of warranty.

Cheers

I have error code P0805 and gearbox goes into emergency mode, after driving tiguan 2018 80k milage for more than 3 hours non stop 3 months ago. I did have engine oil replaced a week before, not sure if it might be related. I have cleared the error code using OBD II. This error code started to reappear sooner and sooner. Currently its showing after about 35 minutes of constant driving. Had gearbox oil changed a month ago; mechanic used 5 litre gearbox oil and pumped it in. Timing belt changed at the same time. Nothing showed straight after when I drove for at least 1 hour and then it started again from when it last left. I have booked a check with dealer and decided to leave the engine light. Though, it gets cleared by itself after about 3 days until when gearbox goes into emergency mode again. I have spoken to a recommended mechanic and he said these cars usually get this and he repairs them for ÂŁ2200 by changing mechatronics unit. I said I have always serviced the car and have not had any accident. It is not my fault that this unit failed. He said it is manufactures fault but people in UK, people just pay up than go back to manufacturer. He said he can give me 10 number plates with exact issue. What is going on and how can I resolve this issue please?

I'm still facing this same issue to be honest. I had my dsg oil and filter changed. My car no longer goes into limp mode but it does give me 'Gearbox Emergency Mode, Drive On' error on my dash. Not sure how to fix this at all, car drives fine but the error is non-stop going. I have an OBD, tried clearing it and still comes back.

Here is a UK firm that have good reviews

Note, you will need to find a good garage that will send the unit away as the vehicle will be immobilised unless you can do it yourself and have off road facilities for the mechatronics etc. The firm does not cater for removal and fitting

As 'thejanners' says, my local garage dealt with 2 recently, your garage will open an account with the specialists, send all the vehicle details to them, they then organise a courier to collect the faulty unit that's been removed, diagnose the fault, repair it, test it, and return by courier to your garage....I believe it's about ÂŁ450 including the courier charges and comes with a warranty...the service is usually carried out in about 5 days.... my local garage said it takes about half an hour to remove the unit and about an hour or so to re-install plus about 6.5 litres of special oil and a filter...( approx ÂŁ150) .... apparently, if they find that they can't repair it, they reimburse your garage the fee, which seems fair. let us know how you get on.

I accidentally dound out i first get Manifold Absolute pressure MAP sensor error p0108 then gearbox emergency mode kicks in using odd gears and then I get p0805. The system later clears the MAP error. If I use the car for short distances, the yellow engine light goes off as well. I cleared the error using simple OBD11 device trough my mobile phone app. I took out the MAP sensor and cleaned it. That extended drive time 5-10 minutes. MAP sensor is 0 281 006 222 bosh manifold intake sensor. New one is not available online. Only used ones on ebay. I found equivalent one from DELPHI. Waiting for delivery. Cost me ÂŁ32. I will update soon.

MAP sensor I ordered. Still waiting.

Hey, check out DELPHI Intake manifold pressure sensor in the AUTODOC app https://m.autodoc.co.uk/delphi/23004195

Never knew a map sensor code causes mechatronics unit codes in this topic.
Just a thought but maybe both things have gone at once. Got a funny feeling he’s hoping the new map sensor will cure the mechatronics issue.

Good news.

Replaced MAP sensor Bosch 0 281 006 222 VW part number 04L 906 0518 (ÂŁ125 from VW dealer) with Delphi: PS20138 or PS20138-12B1 (ÂŁ30 from autodoc.com). Have been driving around all day (20-30 minutes between each stop) and did not get any errors especially PO108 OR PO805. I will drive out the city next week to test linger drive time and at higher speeds.

I will update later.

Bad news.

It appears I never had P0108. So error code p0805 and limp/emergency mode came back. This error was given by old OBD 2 scanner; false reading. I had p0805 and p173600 all along. Though, everytime when I replaced MAP sensor I would get more time to drive before limp/emergency mode. I have a dealer appointment for diagnostics. They said it will cost me ÂŁ144 for diagnostics.

I will update.

Took my car down to a local gearbox specialist an he plugged it in and got the same fault my friend got on his unit and says as the fault is intermitten it's likely the Mechatronics box is on its way out ! ...and mentioned the clutch positioning sensor itself it's within the Mechatronics box ! Not what I wanted to hear...a new box itself is +/-ÂŁ1850 without vat and fitting, such a strange fault tho as it's driving fine yesterday Asif nothing it wrong...then a long journey it will ping up about 40 mins in
Did you ever get this issue sorted out mate? Got the exact same symptoms with my 69 plate Passat
